Announcement // Introducing Marigold Mentoring

You may have already seen a few posts here and there but time to make it blog-official. I'm now offering one-on-one mentoring sessions for creative small business owners! You might be wondering why I decided to take on the added role of mentor in addition to running my own business, Marigold & Grey. To be honest, I asked myself the EXACT same question for a while. I questioned my level of expertise and whether or not I had anything valuable to say. I questioned whether or not I had the time. I even feared putting myself out there and having no one sign up. (We ALL fear rejection, right?) Then it dawned on me that I was already successfully doing a ton of  informal mentoring anyway, between leading the Tuesdays Together Bethesda/Chevy Chase group and offering impromptu coaching sessions over the phone and in-person. It finally made sense to woman-up and have a little confidence in myself, develop a system for the mentoring, and incorporate it into my normal workflow.

I've always been the creative type. Although I chose to go in the corporate world direction after college, I spent my free time styling bridal showers, baby showers, engagement parties, high school reunions, and small intimate gatherings on the side. I even helped friends and family stage their homes to be sold. Gift wrapping at the holidays...my favorite thing! All of this was done for pure fun, never for pay. While the corporate world wasn't satisfying my creative needs, I gained a fantastic foundation in business, particularly sales and marketing. I did medical/surgical sales and worked on full commission for over 11 years managing sales growth, inventory, pricing, profit and business retention. Looking back, it was the closest setup to running my own business as I could get without actually owning a company.

When I finally took a risk, ditched the corporate world, and jumped immediately into the creative world, I noticed that the transition was easier for me than I thought. Things weren't (and aren't) perfect but overall, seem to be clicking. I attribute this 100% to my business background. While medical/surgical sales was stressful, draining and unfulfilling, I wouldn't be where I am today without it. I LOVE combining my business side with my creative side and can't wait to share this with others and help them bridge the gap as well. For the first time in my life, I finally feel like I'm exactly where I need to be.

For now, sessions will be held the first Tuesday of every month and with my very first full-day of mentoring on November 3rd! Absolutely cannot wait. The mentees have been busy filling out their comprehensive questionnaires and I LOVE reading them over as they're submitted. I get SUCH joy out of learning the histories of their businesses, their successes, their struggles and most importantly, what they hope to get out of the mentoring experience.

I plan to focus on the following topics:

Finding Your Niche

Pushing Past Your Comfort Zone

Social Media Strategy

Styling for Instagram

Writing Effective Web Copy

Identifying and Attracting Ideal Clients

Industry Collaborations

Sales & Marketing Strategy

Effective & Efficient Use of Email

Goal Setting
