After a very long, extensive search for a full-time studio assistant and countless fruitless interviews that left me convinced I was in the twilight zone (I could write a book, I swear!), I'm thrilled to announce that we've finally found our girl! Her name Carla Stubbs and as of today, she is officially part of the team! Carla will primarily be supporting me as the CEO with sales support, marketing and admin types of things but will also be pitching in on the operations side of things with some gift assembly and even gift deliveries from time to time. While today is Carla's first "official" day on the job, she came in for a few days over the holidays to lend a hand with the insanity that was December around here! So while she's already had a taste of how we do things and got a glimpse of just how crazy things can get, today is Day One in her new role so please join us in giving her a warm welcome!
Now it's time for you to hear from Carla in her own words!
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hi! I’m Carla. I graduated from Towson University in May of 2017 with a degree in Mass Communications along with a minor in Business Marketing. I love making videos that tell a story, so in 2016 I decided to turn my passion into a small business and opened Carla Elizabeth Studio. I enjoy a challenge and all things creative, so I have been teaching myself hand lettering and calligraphy this holiday season!
What attracted you to the Studio Assistant position?
I first heard of M&G while working on a styled shoot two years ago, and began following their Instagram. When M&G posted they were looking for a studio assistant, it was around the same time I was looking for a career change. This position seemed perfect because I felt I could make an impact, be creative, and learn from Jamie!
What were you doing before joining M&G and how do you think it will benefit you in your new position?
Before joining M&G, I worked in B2B marketing where I managed email and social media marketing for several products. This experience will be beneficial to my new role as I have experience balancing many tasks, marketing different products and staying organized!
What do you most look forward to about the job?
I am most looking forward to learning about the creative and logistical processes of the business while also contributing to help grow the business!
Fave celebrity wedding?
I’m still dreaming about Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding. I studied abroad in London, so I’m particularly passionate about the royal couple! I think that Meghan Markle and Price Harry’s wedding will be one of my favorites too!
Fave movie?
My favorite movie is White Christmas! I have tons of memories watching it with my mom, sister and grandmother each year!
Fave travel destination?
London and Lisbon! I spent four months in London while I was in college and it was one of the best experiences of my life. I visited Lisbon for the first time last summer and I quickly became obsessed. The city is adorable, the people are friendly, and the beaches are picturesque.
Fave Insta account these days and why?
I’m pretty obsessed with Chip and Joanna Gaines, so they top my list of favorite accounts to follow. I also love following the small Baltimore-based plant shop @bwillowbmo for all the plant inspiration!
Who inspires you?
My sister, Emily. Besides her day job in non-profit marketing, she is a talented photographer and always makes time to host friends and family in her home. She is one of those people everyone wants to be friends with because she is so fun to be around.
Hobbies?
I love to knit, paint, travel and try out new restaurants!
Best gift you’ve ever been given?
When I was little, my grandfather built my cousins and I doll chests and doll beds. My grandmother painted each of them with beautiful flowers. They have both since passed away, so the gifts now serve as a physical reminder of the incredible people they were! I can’t wait to give it to my children one day.
Best gift you’ve ever given?
This Christmas, my siblings and I gave my mom a watercolor painting of the lake house my parents bought this year! Owning a house at Lake Anna has been a dream of my moms for years, so it felt special to celebrate it with a piece of art.
Now that you've heard from Carla, I have a confession to make. I reached complete burnout towards the end of 2017 after doing WAY too much in the business for far too long. I had always heard about this thing called "burnout" but had It's time for me to grow the team again and delegate some pretty important things to someone else. I'm confident that Carla is the right person for the job! (Can you guys tell I'm excited?!)
P.s. Because Carla is into videography AND travel, let's sign off with some highlights from a few of her recent adventures, shall we?!
