A Much-Needed Nassau Getaway // Behind the Business

Before I started Marigold & Grey, I used to travel all the time. I mean, all the time. Greece. Czech Republic. France. Maui. Tanzania. Iceland. The list could go on and on. I had the travel bug some kind of fierce. But leaving behind a stable career to start up a brand new business has certainly had a way of keeping this girl closer to home.
Here's where it gets good though. After more than a year of allowing myself ZERO vacations, a childhood friend booked her May 3rd wedding at the Atlantis resort in the Bahamas. No matter how things are exploding with Marigold & Grey, I can't miss a friend's wedding, right? Yup. My thoughts exactly. So, the week prior to leaving, I scrambled and got my outstanding orders built, emails answered, gift designs completed and found a dog sitter to keep our sweet little maltese Lewis. And we were off!
And oh, what a view!
Not long after checking in, a wedding welcome bag was delivered to our room. You can probably imagine how excited I got over this?!
The welcome dinner was a blast. The wedding itself was gorgeous and TONS of fun. Catching up with lifelong friends and even making new ones...priceless. My feet were even sore from dancing so much! But I also learned a few things on this trip.
First, as much as I've fallen in love with my business and it hardly ever feels like work, my husband deserves the laid-back Jamie who isn't necessarily thinking about work. Nor, talking about it 24/7. He's patient and supportive and understanding and always willing to listen. But sometimes enough is enough and I MUST make time to get away. Physically AND mentally away.
Secondly, I realized how special it is to actually WANT to return home. In my previous career, I would literally sob in taxis on the way to the airport to head home from whatever amazing trip we were on. Or, I'd get such terrible anxiety about coming back to my job, that I'd actually get physically sick to my stomach. Nope, not this time. I had a total blast on the trip but genuinely felt excited to go home. It was a peace I'd never felt before. And for this reason, I've never felt so blessed before in my entire life.
Thank you to my friends, Tracey and Erik, for tying the knot in paradise. I think the travel bug has bitten again, and this time with all new meaning.
