Summer is officially here, and we are so excited to be kicking off our intern introductions with M&G summer intern, Isobel Matsukas. With a brand new warehouse, and exciting new collections (and many in the works!) Isobel will be getting the full M&G experience making her rounds to each area of the business including design, production, e-commerce, marketing, and business development. We're so excited to welcome Isobel to our team and can't wait for you to get to know her too!
Without further adieu, let's hear from her in her own words...
Tell us a little bit about yourself!
I’ve grown up in Northern Virginia and am a rising sophomore at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am the Fall Philanthropy Chair of the Gamma Lambda Chapter of Phi Mu Fraternity and hold leadership roles in various clubs on campus. I am hoping to double major in Business Administration through the UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School and Advertising and Public Relations in the UNC Hussman School of Journalism and Media. I love everything music-related, including playing guitar and piano while songwriting. I also enjoy lifting with my younger brother, running, hiking, and yoga/pilates. Spending time with my friends and playing fetch with my two doodle dogs include some of my favorite moments. Lastly, I love being outside in the sunshine!
What are you most excited about?
Where else have you been an intern?
This is my first official internship, however, I have plenty of work experience. I am an international student consultant for 180 Degrees Consulting, a nonprofit student-led consulting firm, working on a compost expansion project for the town of Chapel Hill. Furthermore, in Chapel Hill, I am a hostess at Top of the Hill Restaurant and Brewery during the school year. At home, I am a landscaping grounds technician, babysitter, tutor for elementary and middle schoolers, and a referee for youth volleyball games.
What about M&G made you want to apply for the internship?
Simply put, the Marigold & Grey way of gifting made me want to apply for the internship. Each gift is a beautiful arrangement where each piece has a reason for being included and aesthetically pleases the recipient, while filling their heart. Also, being fully employed with women and being a small business contributed to the long list of why I wanted to intern with M&G!
What was the best gift you’ve ever given? And received?
The best gift I’ve ever received was a parlor size, acoustic guitar my grandmother found. This sparked my interest in learning how to add guitar to my music repertoire as my grandmother was a piano teacher and had been teaching me for years. This gift eventually led to my performance of an original song in a bar in Chapel Hill!
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In five years, I’ll be a recent college graduate and I hope to be working for a major consulting or strategic communications firm. One of my dreams is to found my own consulting and public relations company, but five years might be a little too advantageous, even for me! To incorporate an active lifestyle into my firm, I hope to have treadmill and standing desks; just because business majors tend to have “desk jobs,” it doesn’t mean we have to be sitting all day!
Please join us in giving Isobel a warm welcome and stay tuned as I'm sure she'll be making plenty of appearances on our Instagram stories this summer. If you're interested in our internship program (check out some of our previous M&G rockstar interns while you're at it!) send us an email and we will be in touch!
