It's a dark and dreary day in DC but the planner behind this week's Planner Profile never fails to brighten the day of those around her. She designs and executes large-scale weddings and events with EVOKE DC, owns and operates the popular DC wedding blog District Weddings and is a bride-to-be herself. Oh, AND it's her birthday today! How's THAT for some perfect timing?

Meet Jeannette Tavares of EVOKE DC...

Please tell us a little about yourself and how you ended up as a wedding planner?

Since I was a young girl I have always wanted to be a wedding planner.  I knew I had to be in a field where I was interacting with people, designing and most of all, I had to do something I was passionate about. It allows me to explore my creativity and logistical ability on a daily basis.

What sets you apart from other planners in the industry?

I approach each event as its’ own unique experience, that inspire me and allow me to be out of the box..  My connections with my vendors and  clients  are heartfelt and the relationships have turned into lifelong friendships.  Many of the guests who are coming to my wedding are past clients and I am so excited to share my special day with them as they shared theirs with me.

Please describe your ideal client.

My ideal client is someone looking for the ultimate wedding and guest experience. It’s part of what really stands out about an EVOKE event.  Wedding weekend clients tend to be my favorite. I love getting to create a fun and unforgettable weekend for all the guests and their families and providing the most exceptional service throughout.  It makes for an event experience like no other.

Please describe your signature style.

My style is modern and clean full of texture and design intricacies.  Details! Details! Details!

What’s your favorite way to enhance the guest experience?

Customer service. It isn’t just about your bride and groom, it’s about everyone attending – all the family and friends. EVOKE offers a one of a kind service that sets our clients event experience  apart from any other!  We put ourselves in the shoes of the guests and how we would want to experience the event.  We ensure that all guests needs are met throughout.

What’s the best advice you have for brides and grooms to be?

HAVE fun!  Hire us,  and trust that we are there to give you the best advice, lead you in the right direction, and create the perfect team for you.  If you are more relaxed in the process, you will enjoy it that much more.

Best part of being a planner?

Every day is different! I don’t have a set schedule, but every day brings its own uniqueness.  For example: Today, in our office, we are researching where to find swans for a wedding! See? Different. Wait, till you see what the solution was when we couldn't find real swans…again, the out-of-the-box and problem solving skills at EVOKE are unlike any other!

Most challenging part of being a planner?

The most challenging part of being a planner is ensuring communication is flowing and that expectations are set from day one.

Biggest wedding disaster and how you overcame it?

Knock on wood- haven’t had any!

Fave color palette?

I love all shades of grays and mixed metallics

Fave spot for a destination wedding?

Anywhere in Europe.

Fave ‘something blue’?

The MRS. Box or monogram inside of the wedding dress the date in blue!

Fave floral?

Anything spilling, organic and designed well!

Fave Insta feed these days?

Other than @districtwedding + @EVOKE_DC // I am crushing on: @OhHappyDay – I love everything and anything BRIGHT!

Thank you Jeannette for taking the time to answer our questions! We're thrilled for our readers to get to know you a little better. And of course, happy birthday!!!!
