Happy Monday everyone. I'm starting out with a disclaimer. These photos you're about to see are FAR from perfect. But when it's your absolute favorite holiday, you just can't help but post whatever you find on your phone leftover from a fabulous weekend away from the Marigold & Gray studio.
As much as I love DC fireworks, I much prefer escaping the city each year to head to my family's farm property in Lexington, Virginia. My mom (Sonia) and stepdad (Dale) throw an annual farm party to celebrate the 4th. The bash has become quite a tradition with local BBQ, live music, hayrides, kickball, a late-night bonfire for s'mores and a fireworks show to rival DC's! Okay, so, I admit the "rival DC" comment may be an exaggeration. But it sure feels that way to us!
Thankfully, the weather cleared up and we could enjoy the adorable Main Street scene on Saturday morning. Gift shops with one-of-a-kind finds (my weakness!), gorgeous churches, charming cafes, tons of history and two college campuses...Washington & Lee University and Virginia Military Institute. Yup, all of this in one little town. I took this photo from the top of a brand new hotel in town. Doesn't it look right out of a movie set?
All of a sudden I started to get the feeling that something was going to happen. And sure enough, a parade was about to begin!
Lexington is also where Jeff and I got married back in October 2012 so always feels nice to pay a visit to the church where we had our ceremony.
Part of what made this year so special was introducing the farm party to new friends who have never been. Caroline Dutton of Caroline Dutton Events along with her husband Steve, Liz Fogarty of Elizabeth Fogarty Photography and her husband Gavin, and Jenna Shellhammer of Pop the Cork Designs and her boyfriend Baron. Jeff and I were SO touched that they chose to share their holiday weekend with us and we had a blast showing these city kids around!
Once we left town and headed over to the farm party, one of the highlights was, of course, the hayride! My stepdad gets on his tractor and takes people all around the property. It's a bumpy but beautiful ride!
The hayride was definitely a crowd favorite! Look at all these smiling faces.
But for me, the fireworks always steal my heart. Just don't ask how in the world we acquire these. I cannot tell!
Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday weekend! Now, back to the hustle bustle of reality! But, I do love designing custom client, workshop, and wedding gifts!
