4 Tips for Prettying Up Your Tailgate

With Labor Day behind us, it is officially fall and with that, comes football season. When your favorite team takes the field, tailgating also comes into play. Whether you’re a grill master, the belle of the beverages or a cooler caddy, we’ve got a gameday game plan to make your tailgate the envy of the parking lot or backyard!

Banner Brigade

Keep your team’s flag flying high on game day, then keep it classy on the ground and opt for a tasteful banner. These are easy to DIY or find on Etsy, like this one from BabesnBowsBoutique for my alma mater, the University of Kansas! Wood can withhold the sometimes rough conditions of game day, but its also fun to switch it up each weekend with a paper mache banner. The possibilities are endless!

DIY Cornhole

One of my favorite parts of tailgates are the group games. A classic is the bean-bag game, cornhole. The pieces for this game are easy to make, as your only need 2 slabs of wood, two, 6 inch legs for each board and six bean bags. However, to make this game one-of-a-kind, my friends and I have taken on the challenge of creating our own boards with wood stain and acrylic paint. This makes a fun aesthetic to your tailgate and a fun girls night the night before!

Tasteful Jello Shots

Believe it or not, there are sophisticated ways of serving liquor. Most recently, I prepared these orange peel Jello shots. They were a funky décor piece and a delivious treat for my guests. You can make your own following the instructions on DIYReady, along with multiple recipes!

Tie It Together

The perfect touch to any tailgate and party is a centerpiece. I’ve created this simple one using Mason Jars and fresh flowers, as a finishing aesthetic to an otherwise simplistic plastic table. I liked the casual feel of the jars, as well as the fact I could customize them with my teams colors, and reuse them!
