U.S. Military Inspired Welcome Bags for DC Wedding

I love creating wedding welcome gifts that reflect the city or town where the wedding is behind held. It's a nice way for guests to feel immediately comfortable upon arrival and further connected to the event while visiting from out of town. It's even more exciting when I get to add elements that tell a unique story about the couple. In this case, Lauryn Prattes of Lauryn Prattes Styling & Events approached me with one of her upcoming DC weddings where both the bride and groom serve in the US military. On top of that, they have Irish heritage. I knew immediately this was going to be a fun one!
Washington, DC Elements
Purple was a part of the color palette for the wedding so Maptote Washington DC tote bags were a perfect fit. I included DC-based 2Armadillos roasted chickpeas for a savory snack along with homemade cookies with a cherry blossom design for a sweet treat by Fresh Bakes. The wedding even fell during cherry blossom season so the what a perfect way to highlight one of DC's greatest attractions!
Patriotic Elements
Including military and patriotic elements were very important to the couple. Lauryn mentioned Dog Tag Bakery in Georgetown which I'd never heard of. I'm SO thankful she suggested it because after dropping in to check it out, I immediately fell in love. The concept, the branding, the mission, the food itself...completely inspiring! In addition to being a well-designed bakery with delicious food and desserts, the business provides training and employment for veterans with disabilities along with their spouses. I opted for the brownies which came with a sticker explaining the bakery's mission. It made me smile to know the wedding guests would immediately understand the thought behind choosing this item for the welcome bag. I also added a small American flag pin to the strap of each tote bag as a nod to the couple's military service.
Irish Elements
Ale brewed with four leaf clovers for an Irish couple getting married? Yes, please! Maryland-based Flying Dog Brewery's Lucky SOB Red Ale seemed like the perfect choice. And after taking one look at the bottle label, I knew it would have guests grinning for sure.
Thank you Lauryn Prattes for the opportunity to design such a special set of gifts! I must admit, I felt such a sense of satisfaction once all sixty-two bags were complete, I was a smidge sad to see them whisked off and hand-delivered to the hotels. There are few things in life more exciting to me than a sea of gifts!
