Hallelujah! School has let out and my team of interns for the summer has finally come to the rescue! The growth around here has been amazing and I've definitely been dying for the help. You may recall me introducing UVA student Natalie Kloo back in February. Unfortunately, her plans changed towards the end of the semester and she wasn't able to move forward with the internship. Since then, I've been SO fortunate to find three very creative and committed individuals, each with their own set of unique interests. I plan to introduce them to you one at a time over the coming days.
Today, I'm starting with Ellen Cook from Gaithersburg, Maryland. She's a world traveler, loves to write, and is a whiz at all things social media and DIY. I'm super excited to have her on board and show her all the ins and outs of running a small business. I'm even more excited to introduce her to you all! Please give her a warm welcome!
Q: Tell me a little about yourself!
A: My name is Ellen Cook and I am going into my final year at Susquehanna University where I'm a Public Relations Major with a Minor in Art History. I love to travel and have just returned from studying abroad in London for my spring semester. I'm definitely a dog person, so as you can imagine I was very excited to meet Jamie's bundle of joy, Lewis! In the future I'd like to work as an event planner for a non-profit organization and be able to travel as much as I can!
Q: What are you most excited about for this internship
A: I'm definitely excited to be able to see what really goes behind a small self-started business. I think the fact that I will be able to see every detail as to what needs to get done is valuable and will help me well into the future. The styled shoots that Jamie is involved in also look amazing and I'm so excited that I get to see so many creative people in one place and see what they produce.
Q: Where else have you been an intern?
A: I have worked for an educational photography company called MZed, where I helped recruit attendees to their various photography tours. I also worked in the Public Affairs Office at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, Poland where I was asked to help assemble certain aspects of the Ambassador's Annual 4th of July Party, which was always a big deal there. It was at this internship where I became interested in event planning because I got to see all of the work that goes behind it. I think it's a great way to be able to have a creative outlet in your work. While it can get busy, I think it's also a lot of fun and incredibly rewarding. Plus if you're doing something you really love, it never feels like work.
Q: What would your dream wedding consist of?
A: If we're talking about a no budget kind of wedding, then I would definitely want a destination wedding with my closest friends and family in attendance. Somewhere like Tuscany, Italy or even Tahiti would be perfectly romantic and adventurous, which is everything I'd want in a wedding. And of course, I would assemble my very own gift baskets with the help of Jamie!
Q: What's your favorite thing about Marigold & Grey?
A: I just think Jamie's work is so perfectly put together and just overall so aesthetically pleasing. The fact that Jamie wants other brides to have the best possible experience they can have for their wedding and provides them with that experience is such a special thing. Every basket and creation I've seen has come together so perfectly. I am completely amazed by the creativity and style that Jamie puts into her work and I'm thrilled to be able to be a part of it!
