We are thrilled to introduce to you our newest team member, Mia Glees! She joins the M&G team as our 'Studio Concierge' and she'll be handling a little bit of everything around here from coordinating production projects, collaborating on custom gift design, ordering, and more! With wedding season in full swing and holiday on the horizon, we're so thankful to have her talent, intelligence, enthusiasm, and work ethic. I can't wait for you all to get to know her. Now, let's hear from Mia in her own words!
TELL US A LITTLE BIT ABOUT YOURSELF!
My name is Mia and I am obsessed with stationery, ice cream, and cute pups! I grew up in Virginia but spent 8 years in Texas where I attended Texas A&M University. After graduating, I moved to D.C. and have been here ever since. I can often be found browsing local stationery stores and reading every single card on the wall, behind my iPad creating designs for my Etsy shop, Halo Paper Company, or catching a flight around the world. I love experiencing new places and have also taught English in Greece and the Czech Republic!
WHAT ATTRACTED YOU TO THE STUDIO CONCIERGE POSITION?
I was interested in the position because I loved the creative environment and small business atmosphere. It was the perfect balance of administrative and design work that I had been looking for, and I was excited about the variety of areas of the business I would be supporting. I also loved the idea of getting to interact with customers to help them find the perfect gift!
WHAT WERE YOU DOING BEFORE JOINING M&G AND HOW DO YOU THINK IT WILL BENEFIT YOU IN YOUR NEW POSITION?
Before joining M&G, I was a 2nd grade ESL teacher in Washington, D.C. Managing 20+ little personalities each with individual needs has prepared me for just about anything. I learned how to quickly adapt plans, use data to make decisions, create management systems, and most importantly, how to have fun and stay positive through any challenge thrown my way! I also have learned quite a bit about e-commerce and creating a quality customer experience through my Etsy shop. I am excited to apply these skills in a new setting and believe my background will be beneficial in supporting the team with future projects!
WHAT DO YOU MOST LOOK FORWARD TO ABOUT THE JOB?
So many things! I am truly honored to be part of the M&G team and can’t wait to support the team in various capacities. If I had to pick though, I think I am most looking forward to working on custom design projects. I can’t wait to work with clients to bring their ideas to life!
A FAVORITE MOVIE?
Paddington for sure. Something about a British teddy bear who creates chaos wherever he goes is simply adorable.
FAVORITE SUMMERTIME TRAVEL DESTINATION?
I have a lot of favorite places, but Prague, Czech Republic is at the top of my list. It really feels like a magical city out of a fairytale. After graduating from college, I spent some time teaching English there and loved every minute. I spent many nights watching the sunset with friends in the park, exploring castles, and eating one too many Trdelník pastries (think rolled pastry dough filled with ice cream- truly to die for)!
A FAVORITE INSTA ACCOUNT THESE DAYS?
@NewHappyCo- the cutest geometric visuals to help shift your mindset and @prettylittletrips for all the travel inspo!
WHO INSPIRES YOU?
From my friends to my family, I have a lot of incredibly talented people in my life that I look up to. I think the person that most inspires me though, is my future self. I have big dreams and goals, so picturing the kind of person I want to be in the future is what keeps me motivated.
THE BEST GIFT YOU'VE EVER GIVEN?
The best gift I’ve ever given was for my boyfriend’s birthday. When we first started dating, I learned that he loves it when tv shows or movies have time-lapses. So, when his birthday came around a couple of months later, I knew I wanted to create some kind of time-lapse of our relationship. I built out a website with a slideshow of all the pictures we had together in chronological order, added our favorite song, and then embedded a QR code link into a picture frame. He absolutely loved it. The best part is I continually add to this, so it’s like a never-ending gift! Three years and 100+ pictures later, we have our own time-lapse montage, and it is so fun to see how we’ve grown.
We hope you enjoyed learning a little bit about Mia and her role. Stay tuned to our Instagram to see even more behind-the-scenes action of all of our team members. In the meantime, don't miss our latest Intern Spotlight where we introduce you to our fabulous summer intern, Isobel.
