Flower Girl & Ring Bearer Welcome Baskets for a Virginia Wedding

You'd think that creating custom welcome baskets for a flower girl and ring bearer for a fall wedding at the Salamander Resort would be a cinch. Umm, not exactly. Especially when I don't have little ones of my own, it led to tons of second guessing about what is actually age-appropriate and what they will actually find fun. Luckily, I had a quick conversation with Laura of Events in the City (also a Mom!) and she set me straight, explaining that you can get kids the most elaborate toys and games in the world and in the end, they prefer simple. Thanks Laura! I took your advice, opted for "simple" and sure enough, they ended up perfect.

The wedding had a farm-to-table feel so I opted for baskets that were neutral and organic. I kept the contents roughly the same for each while mixing up some of the colors and including a few gender-specific items. For example, the girl basket contained a set of baby farm animal figurines and a bracelet loom. The boy basket got a set of plastic insects and kinetic sand. Since neither basket was totally gender specific, who knows, they may have even ended up sharing. Girls like sand too, right?

Keeping things simple and child friendly, I chose organic apple juice, goldfish crackers, lollipops, bubbles and, of course, fruit. Had to the get the healthy in there somewhere!

To dress up the baskets and elevate them to the level of the adult welcome baskets we also created, I finished them off with satin ribbon and hand-lettered calligraphy tags by Poppy & Scooter.

And here they are, just before heading out the door to Middleburg, Virginia.

To my surprise, I ended up having a blast creating these and look forward to many more. Moral of the story, my friends, welcome gifts aren't just for grown-ups! Would you like to welcome your ring bearer or flower girl with a special basket? Let's chat!
